V-Blocks
V Blocks are utilized in conjunction with Surface Plates while performing Layout Inspection, and as a holding fixture for CMM, Optical Comparator, and other devices
Typically many users are unaware of the uncertainties and unable to assess the validity of V-Blocks
Common issues are, using the wrong angle type, lack of considering potential impact, or thinking “it’s just a reference”
In many cases there may not be a significant issue, however in some cases where the uncertainty is considerable in relation to the product tolerance, there is impact to product and the results are impaired
Areas of concern are
V Angle accuracy and angular surface wear
Parallelism of V to Bottom Surface
Centrality of V to Side Faces
Perpendicularity of V to End faces
Any nicks or damage affecting positional accuracy
There are various types, 60 or 90 degree, with or without clamps, some clear the side surfaces with clamp in place, in various materials Steel, Granite, Magnetic,
